I wish I had known about Houzz when we began planning our renovation. You can create different Idea Books to keep track of ideas you have for your project. You can also browse through other people's Idea Books, save their photos to your own Idea Book, or comment on photos you like.

Like Pinterest, Houzz offers a bookmarklet to help you easily send photos you find on the web straight to your Houzz Idea Book. It's a great site for inspiration.

Modern kitchen design at Rural King

Every time the Chiasso catalog arrives, I look for barstools for the kitchen island. Unless you're right in front of the stove on one of those cushiony mats, standing on hard bamboo for any length of time can make your feet hurt.

We spend a lot of time in the kitchen, and it has proved to be a natural gathering place when we have visitors, so we've been on the hunt for some nice, affordable barstools since the day we moved in.

Seen in the wild: Corrugated Metal Siding

During a recent trip to Colorado, Brad and I came across some corrugated metal siding in its natural habitat: industrial buildings. I never really noticed metal siding before we decided to use it on our own house, but now I see it everywhere I go. Here are a couple buildings we saw in Englewood, Colorado.

We love our metal roof. The rain sounds great on it, and it will last for ages. When Brad's brother, Andrew, said he was shopping for a new roof for his house, we suggested he look into metal, too. Flash forward: he got the new roof installed last week, and it looks great!

Finding inspiration on the road

While we were in the design process, I traveled to Minnesota to see my family.

My sister knew we were considering corrugated metal siding, and told me about a couple houses in her neighborhood that I might like to check out.

I snapped a few photos and sent them to Patrick and Brad as inspiration.

I like that splash of color on the front, and I knew Patrick would love it since his own office is very orange.

I hoped to include some splashes of color on the exterior of This Abandoned House someday, too.
